Quality Medical Care Should Play a Part in Deciding Where to Live

When looking for a home, buyers should, and often do, consider the availability of excellent medical care. Even if one is fortunate to be healthy, life can change in an instant.

Our lives changed in 2014 when our then 23-year-old son was diagnosed with Burkitt Lymphoma. He received excellent, state-of-the-art care at The Dartmouth Cancer Center in Lebanon, NH. As the only rural NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in the country, the Cancer Center brings big-city care to all the communities it serves throughout the Northeast, along with an outstanding staff and an exceptional patient experience.

Since 1982, the Prouty has been a family-friendly fundraising event, combining cycling, walking, golf, rowing, and more to raise funds and awareness for life-saving research and critical patient and family support services at Dartmouth Cancer Center. Each year in July, people from around the country and Upper Valley come together at this event. Monies raised go directly to funding cancer research and support services for patients and care partners (massage, Reiki, nutrition, support/education groups, exercise programs, and snacks during therapy, to name a few). 

During hospitalization for chemotherapy, our son took advantage of massage therapy which helped him to relax and improved his comfort during long hours in the hospital bed. In addition, monies raised helps support oncology nursing education. The nurses are often on the front lines providing critical care.  

We are pleased to say that our son is married now and expecting their first baby (a girl!) at the end of July. In his honor, we will ride our bikes in the Prouty once again on 7/9/22 and contribute to the Dartmouth Cancer Center's mission "together, we will end cancer."
